Memorial Day 2015

With thanks to http://myvfw.org/nc/post1920/taps/
for sharing the history and lyrics of Taps;  this one being one of the earliest set.

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky
All is well, safely rest
God is nigh.
Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar, drawing near
Falls the night.
Thanks and praise for our days
Neath the sun, neath the stars, neath the sky
As we go, this we know
God is nigh.

Dear Soldier, Dear Good Warrior,

Here at this hallowed ground
Where you lay at final rest,
Where your family and beloved friends
Grieved deeply for your life’s end.

I have never met you,
Looked into your eyes,
And make my pitiful try
to thank you.

As your living counterparts would do,
You’d just shrug your shoulders
And quietly, humbly say
“It’s just my job that I do.”

Although you have every reason to be proud,
You show humbleness and modesty.
Maybe pride started you on your road,
Now I see only your devotion.

This precious Path that led you here.
Aside the chaos, confusion, doubts, and pain,
It was your choice, your action
That gifts safekeeping on our Nation.

You took on and did what me and the rest
For whatever reason could not do.
You walked into the fire
To keep us from being burned.

Your body is still,
Your Spirit goes on
In every heartbeat
And each footstep.

It is because of you
That we are as safe
As we can be,
That we are as free
As we can be.

Though it isn’t perfect
And it doesn’t feel enough,
Still it comes from my heart,
This gratefulness is what I give you.american_flag_with_ships_rigging fnd img 05252015

And so to you I say again,
Thank you and Bless your good Spirit.
May you Rest in Peace, dear Soldier.
May you Rest in Peace, dear Good Warrior.

Blessed be.
